Day 2 - Honoring leaders of the past, present and future

The class had a great start of the second day of the national trip in DC. We embarked on a walking tour of the Washington Mall, which was guided by Dr. Randolph, Colonel, of National Defense University. Touring the monuments of great Americans was a walk through the history of our country that taught us about a number of events, sacrifices and courage that shaped our country and made us who are today.

After lunch at the Smithsonian Castle, we visited the National Association of Counties where we learned about county government and the challenges they face in today’s economic climate. From here we jetted over to the Longworth building where we meet with Congressman Devin Nunes, class 29. Congressman Nunes first got us up to speed on current issues facing our national government. He then gave us a very special tour of the capitol, including a visit to the house floor, the Speaker’s chambers and balcony, and the rotunda. It was truly a unique privilege that will stay with us through our lives.
